A total of 1,982 young people from all departments of Colombia signed up for the call for the 'Ecopetrol Mario Galan Gomez High Schools' program, aimed at the best high school graduates of 2023, who do not have the economic resources to access higher education programs.

This year, the program will increase its quotas and will award 100 scholarships for the first time to young people from rural and urban public schools throughout the country, including Ecopetrol's areas of influence, ethnic communities and diverse populations.

The departments with the highest number of young people enrolled were: Santander (189), Huila (134), Casanare (120), Norte de Santander (112), Bolivar (117), Meta (106) and Cundinamarca (104). In rural areas, 599 young people were registered and in urban areas 1,383.

The results of the call to access the scholarships will be announced on April 12, through direct communication with the selected beneficiaries, who must strictly comply with the requirements demanded by the company.

The selection of the students benefiting from the initiative is made after the corresponding validation process by Ecopetrol, with the support of the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education - ICFES and the Ministry of National Education.

Ecopetrol will be responsible for the payment of 100% of the value of the higher or university studies chosen by the student in an educational institution that is accredited by the Ministry of National Education. In addition, the company will grant a six-month allowance for transportation, accommodation and food to young people who study outside their municipalities of residence.

The increase in the number of scholarships offered this year ratifies Ecopetrol's commitment to closing socioeconomic gaps through education as a driver of social transformation.
