Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-POWER, headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kanno) announced that a J-POWER proposal has been selected by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the FY2023 Infrastructure Development Investigation Program for Joint Crediting (Feasibility Study for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM)).

The full title of the proposal is Study of GHG Emission Reduction and Economic Feasibility by the Introduction of Combined Distributed Renewable Energy Resources into Poultry Cooperatives in the Philippines.

Now that the proposal has been accepted, J-POWER will investigate the feasibility of reducing GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by providing a consistent supply of CO2-free electricity to poultry farms in the Province of Bataan, the Philippines. The project will install roof-top solar panels and bioenergy systems, as well as use chicken manure and storage batteries at the farms, to replace electricity from the largely fossil fuel-powered grid.

Successful implementation of these initiatives could be adopted by other industries in the Philippines then replicated overseas, helping to lower global emissions. The joint crediting mechanism (JCM) enables the transfer of advanced low carbon technology from Japan to developing countries. The GHG emission reductions achieved through JCM projects count toward Japan's emission reduction targets. J-POWER's goal is to achieve carbon neutrality through power generation by 2050, and we will continue to pursue distributed energy services both in Japan and overseas, as set out in J-POWER BLUE MISSION 2050, announced in February 2021.
