Energy Harbor Corp. announced its Perry Nuclear Power Plant in North Perry Village, Ohio, was taken offline at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 7, for scheduled refueling and preventative maintenance. While the unit is offline, approximately one third of the unit's 748 fuel assemblies will be replaced. Preventive maintenance and safety inspections to ensure continued safe and reliable operations also will be performed on major components including the reactor vessel, turbine generator and various pumps and valves. In total, more than 1,800 work activities will be completed during the refueling outage. More than 1,000 temporary contract workers and Energy Harbor employees will supplement the more than 600 Perry employees assigned to the outage. The additional workforce will provide a multi-million-dollar economic boost to the local economy. The 1,277-megawatt Perry Nuclear Power Station has operated safely and reliably, generating more than 21 million megawatt hours of electricity since the completion of its last refueling in March 2019.
