ENKA Insaat ve Sanayi A.S. plans to build a floating LNG storage and regasification unit in the industrial Aliaga district of the Aegean province of Izmir. The company has applied to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) for an approval to build the facility, which will enable it to supply cheaper gas to its 1,520 MW power plant in Izmir, Daily Sabah reported. The new floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), with a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters of gas, will store LNG imported by state-owned oil and gas company BOTAS. The new FSRU, manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries, has left South Korea for Turkey on June 11.
