Huvis (CEO Shin, You Dong, 079980) and the Army Consolidated Supply Depot announced on the 5th that they had signed an agreement on the 4th for the public and private sector to cooperate in the development of military fiber.

Major officials of the two institutions attended the agreement ceremony held in the conference room of the Army Consolidated Supply Depot in Sejong, including Tae Jun Ma (Grade 2 Official), director of the Army Consolidated Supply Depot, and Seong Yoon Park, director of Huvis R&D Center.
Based on the agreement, the two institutions will be able to supply military personnel products that excel by studying and testing advanced fiber technologies in the private sector, with 'mutual support in research and testing for the development of military fiber', provision and consultation regarding fiber-related advanced technology information (smart fibers, eco-friendly materials, antimicrobial fibers, etc.)', and 'mutual exchange for the development of fiber and promotion of amity'.
Among all military supplies, clothing is an essential item that is worn by soldiers at all times in training and barrack life. Fiber technology, which is the raw material, has a significant impact on improving the soldiers' fighting strength and quality of life. Thus, the military is actively trying to adopt advanced technologies from the private sector.
In 2009, Huvis developed Korea's first meta-aramid super fiber, which it then applied to garments worn when fighting fires in Korea in 2015, achieving domestic production of these materials. The company is also moving beyond this and is further expanding its lineup for various eco-friendly materials, such as recycled yarn (Ecoever) made from used PET bottles and biodegradable polyester fiber (ecoen). Recently, Huvis has developed a smart fiber business with startup company Mcell, based on which it will apply high-functional eco-fiber to the clothing and bedding of military personnel.
"We're going to concentrate our competencies in co-developing advanced fiber technology by exchanging technology with Huvis R&D Center, which currently has the world's top-level researchers in fiber materials," said Tae Jun Ma. Seong Yoon Park, director of Huvis R&D Center, said, "We will actively provide advanced technology in smart fibers, eco-friendly materials, and antimicrobial fibers to contribute to the development of military wear."
