Seoul, Feb 18 (EFE).- Big Hit Entertainment, the music agency behind South Korean chart-toppers BTS, and American giant Universal Music Group announced Thursday a partnership to form a new K-pop band to debut the United States.

The new boy band will be produced and released by a new Los Angeles-based label, a joint venture between Big Hit and the UMG's legendary Geffen Records following the K-pop system.

"I strongly believe that UMG and Big Hit will create a synergy that will rewrite the global music history," Big Hit's chairman and CEO Bang Si-hyuk said in a video announcing the deal.

The process to find and select the members of the group globally will be broadcast on a television program that will start in 2022.

Although the group will debut in the US, the selection and training process will follow the same methodologies applied in the K-pop system in South Korea.

The members of the new group will have to train in singing and dancing, learn about fashion and style creation and communicate with followers through social networks, an important pillar that has sustained the global success of BTS and Big Hit.

As part of the agreement, the companies will reinforce the interaction between fans and artists through Weverse, the social network created for this purpose originally by Big Hit.

"We're thrilled to be working together as we launch a new joint venture between our companies that will further accelerate K-pop as a global cultural phenomenon," said Lucian Grange, chairman and CEO of UMG. EFE
