Green, Switzerland's leading data centre provider, is building three high-performance data centres and a business park with modern office space on the Metro Campus Zurich in Dielsdorf. Implenia is currently building the south office building, including the underground car park and its surroundings, as general contractor. It will be ready for occupation in summer 2024.

CO2 reduction by a factor of 40

The use of 100% recycled end-of-life aluminium for façade elements will save over 167 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Compared to primary aluminium, the new material reduces the CO2 footprint by a factor of 40 without any loss of quality. Aluminium that has been in use for decades is recycled in such a way that it can be reused as new. New façade elements for the office building are made from the recycled aluminium. "We are constantly looking at how we can use new materials in innovative ways and are delighted that we have been able to do this in collaboration with our partners," says Roger Süess, CEO of Green.

Implenia's sustainability experts examined the material and its certificate in detail at the start of the planning phase and approved it. "Thus, nothing stood in the way of an innovative approach based on partnership," says Implenia project manager Remo Vollenweider. With 100% recycled aluminium, the four partners are setting an example: A material with great potential for the future is being used in Switzerland for the first time.
