JSW : at PreCop 28

Two days of meetings, debates and thematic sessions devoted to climate issues. Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa was once again present at the international climate conference held in Katowice. One of the speakers at PreCop28 was Wojciech Kałuża, Vice-President of JSW, who took part in a debate on decarbonization of the industry.

PreCop 28, which is a kind of foretaste of COP 28 in Dubai, attracted numerous participants from around the world to discuss key issues related to the fight against climate change. Wojciech Kałuża, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Development, stressed that Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is working intensively on innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with coking coal mining.

- The decarbonization of the industry begins at JSW, more than 1,000 meters underground, as JSW is Europe's largest producer of coking coal for steel production. And as we know, there is no transition without steel - said Vice-President Wojciech Kałuża, adding: - We have adopted the environmental strategy of the JSW Group, which, among other things, provides for reducing the carbon footprint by 30 percent by 2030, and achieving climate neutrality by 2050 - explained Wojciech Kałuża.

PreCop 28 was an excellent opportunity to share experiences and collaborate with other industry leaders to push for a more sustainable energy future. JSW is ready to play an important role in the decarbonization of the industry and continue to invest in modern technologies.

- JSW is a leader of certain solutions on a global scale and can contribute to reducing the greenhouse effect. We are pleased with our achievements, we are implementing innovative solutions and production methods, which allows us to provide the metallurgical market with a product that has a significantly reduced carbon footprint - said Wojciech Kałuża, noting the key issues related to methane. - We want to capture up to 50 percent of methane and utilize 95 percent of it. We are spending huge resources on this - the Vice-President pointed out, stressing that only through cooperation, innovation and commitment can the goals of environmental protection and the fight against climate change be achieved. PreCop 28 was another important step on this vital path.
