AUGSBURG (dpa-AFX) - According to a media report, the robot manufacturer Kuka is planning significant job cuts in its automated production systems division. As reported by the "Augsburger Allgemeine" (Wednesday), around half of the approximately 500 jobs in the Systems division at the company's headquarters in Augsburg are to be cut. According to the report, employees will also forgo ten percent of their salary. A company spokesperson did not wish to comment on these figures on Wednesday.

It has been the case for years that systems engineering has been going badly, the spokesperson said. However, this is not Kuka's core business. The division only accounts for around four percent of turnover. The previously announced restructuring of the Kuka Systems division is currently being implemented. Negotiations with IG Metall and the works council are currently underway. The company will not comment on the steps to be taken to make the plant engineering division profitable again until they have been concluded.

The company spokesperson said that if jobs are lost, the employees should be kept on in other areas of Kuka if possible. New jobs would be created in other business areas. Kuka employs around 3750 people in Augsburg; the robot manufacturer has around 15,000 employees worldwide./uvo/DP/stk
