Medibank Private Limited announced Hon Jay Weatherill AO has been appointed to the Medibank Board as a non-executive director, subject to the satisfactory completion of regulatory and other formalities, effective 18 March 2024. Mr. Weatherill has had a distinguished career in public office and brings expertise across a wide range of public policy areas including reform of social services. Mr. Weatherill leads the Thrive by Five campaign delivering the Minderoo Foundation's early childhood agenda. He was Premier of South Australia for more than 6 years and a Minister for 16 years with
responsibility for portfolios including Treasury, State Development, Early Childhood Development, Education, Housing, Aboriginal Affairs and the Environment. Mr. Weatherill will be a member of the Audit and Risk Management Board Committees. Mr. Weatherill was Premier of South Australia for more than 6 years. He was elected to Parliament in 2002, serving 16 years in a diverse range of portfolios including Treasury, State Development, Early Childhood Development, Education, Housing, Aboriginal affairs and the Environment. Prior to this, he practised law, specialising in employment law. Mr. Weatherill leads the Thrive by Five campaign delivering the Minderoo Foundation's early childhood agenda. He is also an Industry Professor at the University of South Australia and an ambassador for Reggio Children. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Australia Day Honours list for his work in early childhood development. He is currently a Board member of Keystart WA, an affordable home lending agency, and Infrastructure WA ­ both statutory authorities of the Government of Western Australia.
