The Mitsubishi Chemical Group is pleased to announce that the main building (office and laboratory areas) of its Science & Innovation Center has received WELL Building Standard v2 pilot certification.

WELL Building Standard is an international certification program led by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), an American public benefit corporation that evaluates building spaces from the perspective of human health and wellbeing. The program measures, evaluates, and certifies whether a building space contributes to health and wellbeing in line with ten concepts (air, water, nourishment, light, movement, thermal comfort, sound, materials, mind, and community).

With the vision of establishing a world-class research and development arm that constantly generates innovation and contributes to society in a sustainable manner, the Group in September 2022 opened a new research building (main building) in the Science & Innovation Center in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture designed by Takenaka Corporation (headquartered in Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture). It is intended to be a place where people can commune with nature and reinvigorate themselves, and where new innovations can be created by stimulating communication and thinking. In addition, the Group is working to provide mental support such as healthy and delicious meals and improved access to nature that contribute to employee wellbeing through the design of the building space and the installation of fixtures aimed at health management and work style reform. These were assessed in accordance with the WELL Building Standard v2 pilot evaluation criteria, leading to the facility's certification.

The Group will be actively striving to create office and laboratory spaces at the Science & Innovation Center that take into consideration the health and wellbeing of employees in the hopes of putting in place an environment where they can feel healthy and fulfilled in their work and maximize their abilities. The Group will also be introducing state-of-the-art digital facilities to accelerate and streamline research and development, engendering collaboration with customers and partners to provide solutions as a global hub.
