Mitsui : Acquisition of Synergy Group's positioning and paving businesses

Through its Australian subsidiary Aptella Pty Ltd ("Aptella"), Mitsui & Co., Ltd ("Mitsui") has acquired Synergy Group ("Synergy")'s positioning distribution business and paving consultancy business for the construction sector in New Zealand and infrastructure sector in Australia.

Synergy positioning business provides various digital solutions utilizing satellite positioning and automation technologies mainly for construction industry in New Zealand. Also, their Australian paving consulting business offers customers a comprehensive solution portfolio for road construction and infrastructure projects. Demand for efficient and safe construction work is increasing amid serious labor shortage in the sector. Aptella strives to solve customer challenges by providing advanced digital technologies, enhanced through professional services and consulting.

In 2019 Mitsui made an initial investment in Aptella (formerly Position Partners), the largest technology solutions provider for the construction, mining, and geospatial sectors in Australia. Since then, Mitsui has increased its shareholding in this business and worked to enhance growth strategies with Aptella. Mitsui has now positioned Aptella as a core company in its "Construction and Mining Solutions Business Cluster".

As part of these growth strategies, through Aptella, Mitsui has acquired Synergy's positioning, rental, and equipment businesses in New Zealand and its paving solution business in Australia, thereby making Aptella the largest positioning and automation solution provider in the Oceania region. It is anticipated that the similarities between the New Zealand and Australian market characteristics and customer applications will bring about strong alignment and collaboration between Aptella's operations in both countries. IN Australia, Aptella will leverage its existing network and technical team to expand the road pavement construction services offered by Synergy for infrastructure projects.

Mitsui will continue to expand its Positioning and Automation business for the construction and mining sectors - through Aptella - to address social issues and contribute to the realization of "Enhanced quality of life" - one of Mitsui's materiality initiatives.
