TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) received approval for its net-zero targets from the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative. The Nikon Group has been setting a target of achieving carbon neutrality by FY2050. This time, the Nikon Group has set a new long-term target of achieving zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions*1 throughout the value chain following SBT initiative, which received approval from the SBT initiative. In addition, the GHG emissions reduction targets for FY 2030 (Near-Term Targets), which had previously been certified have been updated in line with the latest criteria set by the SBT initiative, and have been re-certified as the "1.5 degrees Celsius target."
Nikon will bring the target forward by 20 years for switching to 100% renewable energy for electricity used in our business activities, moving it from FY 2050 to FY 2030, to achieve the GHG emissions reduction targets.

The SBT Initiative is an initiative jointly established in 2015 by the United Nations Global Compact, WRI (World Resources Institute), and others to encourage companies to set science-based GHG reduction targets to limit the rise in global average temperatures due to climate change to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

    Reduce absolute scope 1*2 and 2*3 GHG emissions 57% by FY2030 from a FY2022 base year.
    Reduce absolute scope 3*4 GHG emissions 25% from a FY2022 base year.
