Amid growing uncertainty, innovation still stands tall as a priority for businesses. According to the Red Hat 2023 Global Tech Outlook, businesses continue to rank innovation as a powerful differentiator, allowing organizations to rise above their competitors and forge their unique path to success. The awards' five categories focus on key technologies that can help businesses stand out amid today's uncertain landscape: Digital Transformation, Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud-native Development, Automation, and Resilience.

The winners were selected based on the positive impact their Red Hat deployments had on their business goals. They showcase the possibilities of open source, pushing the boundaries of business processes, productivity, innovation, and resilience.

Category: Automation and Resilience

Winner: Petroliam Nasional Berhad

Engaged in a spectrum of fuel and non-fuel activities, PETRONAS Dagangan aims to leverage automation to improve staff productivity and reduce errors in software processes such as patching and configuration management through deploying Red Hat solutions.

Currently, the company has 1,076 petrol stations nationwide. Patching for the operating systems in these petrol stations was previously a highly manual process, making it a tedious, resource-intensive and costly process. There was also a higher risk of errors in software-related processes due to manual deployments, apart from reported breaches and compliance issues pertaining to the CentOS operating system. With Red Hat Ansible Automation, PDB is better placed to automate and streamline its IT operations through automated, timely patch updates, which led to increased efficiency, scalability, and security for Petronas's petrol stations.

Category: Digital Transformation and Cloud-Native Development

Winner: Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad

As a full-service Islamic bank in Malaysia, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Muamalat) is a pioneer in Islamic banking and provides Islamic banking products and services to Malaysians across the country, with 68 branches nationwide.

The fintech landscape has changed dramatically in Malaysia in the past decade, with new fintech challengers disrupting the digital banking experience. Consumers also expect greater choice in online banking services.

To better meet these market demands, continue delivering exceptional customer experiences, and create new revenue streams, Bank Muamalat set out to leverage Red Hat's cutting-edge technologies, agile techniques, and cloud-native platforms to enhance software delivery speed and security. In doing so, Bank Muamalat aimed to create a connected ecosystem of partners, employees, apps, and devices that would result in better integration and a seamless banking experience.

Tapping into Red Hat Integration, Bank Muamalat's Open API Gateway project successfully transformed its core services into a cloud-native integration platform, enabling seamless interaction between different software applications via a specified set of protocols and providing access to third-party applications. Red Hat's open, modular framework equips Bank Muamalat with all the capabilities required to build an agile, effective, security-focused infrastructure that adapts to business and industry changes.
