The Irving, Texas-based company said it had net income of $5.28 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $5.26 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $5.41 per share.

The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $5.22 billion in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.18 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $4.89 billion, or $20.21 per share. Revenue was reported as $19.36 billion.
