Prudential's Individual Life Insurance president is first Black woman to lead organization's trustees.

NEWARK, N.J., March 13, 2024 - Salene Hitchcock-Gear, president of Individual Life Insurance, Prudential Financial, has been named chair of the board of trustees for The American College of Financial Services, the nation's largest nonprofit educational institution devoted to financial services professionals. Hitchcock-Gear is the first Black woman to lead the institution's board in its nearly 100-year history.

Since 2019, Hitchcock-Gear has served on The College's board. She was presented the Lang Dixon Award in 2023, recognizing her focus on fostering educational opportunity and increasing awareness of tools that help people protect their legacies, access generational wealth and enhance financial security for communities that have historically been excluded from the financial system.

"By providing a quality education today, we are ensuring a more robust financial services field tomorrow," said Hitchcock-Gear. "It's a privilege to be able to collaborate with financial services professionals who value the importance of a meaningful education."

A Detroit native and insurance industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Hitchcock-Gear joined Prudential in 2017 as chief operating officer of Prudential Advisors, the company's closely aligned network of nearly 3,000 financial professionals, providing retail advice, financial planning, and product and investment solutions to individuals throughout the U.S. She was appointed president of Individual Life Insurance in 2018.

In addition, she is executive sponsor of Prudential's Women Empowered business resource group, which creates an inclusive, connected community for women to promote development and drive impact for themselves and Prudential. She also serves on the Life Insurance Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers.

"I am beyond pleased to congratulate Salene on her new role," says George Nichols III, CAP®, president and CEO of The College. "The College takes great pride in maintaining a high standard of excellence when it comes to financial services education. We are confident that Salene's expertise will advance both The College and the collective financial services field into the future."

Established in 1927, The American College of Financial Services educates financial professionals at all stages of their career. Open to financial professionals of many different interests, The College offers continuing education opportunities, professional designations and certifications, and graduate degrees, as well as holds professional development and networking events and drives immense impact through its eight community-focused or topic-specific Centers of Excellence.
