PT Vale's CEO Febriany Eddy explained to the President that the implementation of sustainable mining can be seen, among other things, in the nickel ore mining which is carried out with limited land opening. Only areas that are proven to be rich in nickel ore will be mined. Progressive reclamation is then carried out on the post-mining area to minimize exposed land.

In terms of controlling and managing mining waste, PT Vale has built more than 100 sedimentation facilities units. These facilities have a total capacity of more than 15 million cubic meters. Monitoring, maintenance, and dredging of settling facilities are carried out regularly. PT Vale also operates a liquid waste management facility with innovative technology, Lamella Gravity Settler (LGS), that was developed by BPPT and is commonly used as drinking water purification facilities.

In addition to President Joko Widodo, Febriany also delivered her report to several high ranking officers from the Central and Regional Governments, including the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung Wibowo, Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, and the Regent of East Luwu Budiman Hakim.

Febriany also elaborated the Company's business expansion to two other provinces, namely Central Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi. Groundbreaking for the two development projects were done in February 2023 and November 2022 respectively. PT Vale will bring sustainable mining practices that have been consistently adopted in the Sorowako Block to the Bahodopi and Pomalaa Block.

Febriany then continued, "The preparation of the new HPAL plant development in South Sulawesi is progressing well and we expect to have the groundbreaking this year."

PT Vale and its partners have agreed to implement sustainable business practices in accordance with the international Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards in all development projects in the three provinces. For PT Vale, ESG is not just an initiative, ESG is part of the Company's identity.

"We believe that there will be no future without mining. On the other hand, there will be no mining if there is no concern for the future. The consistency of PT Vale's sustainable mining practices has attracted global automakers like Ford Motor Co. and Huayou, a leading manufacturer of new energy battery materials in China to co-invest in Indonesia. This investment is the first investment for Ford Motor Co. in Indonesia," said Febriany.
