Current AutoZone chairman and former president and CEO Bill Rhodes has been appointed to the boards of Regions Financial Corp. and its subsidiary, Regions Bank. His term is set to begin on March 1. Regions is the No.

2 largest bank in the Memphis area, with $4.67 billion in local deposits, according to MBJ research. Rhodes officially stepped down from his previous roles at AutoZone in January after being CEO since 2005. He joined the company in 1994 and remains chairman, a role he's held since 2007.

During Rhodes' tenure as president and CEO, AutoZone doubled its number of auto parts stores, with more than 7,000 across the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil, and grew its workforce to about 120,000 employees. Prior to being AutoZone's CEO, he served in various executive roles for the company, including leading store operations and overseeing the supply chain, information technology, and finance departments. Rhodes began his career with Ernst & Young.

Rhodes is a University of Tennessee at Martin graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting. He earned an MBA from the University of Memphis. Rhodes is the current chair of the Coalition for Auto Repair Equality and he serves on the boards of the Retail Industry Leaders Association, Youth Programs Inc., the National Civil Rights Museum, and the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees, and he is a member of the J.R. Hyde III Family Foundation Board of Trustees.
