Announcement to the MarketRenova Energia S.A. (RNEW11) ("Company"), the first company dedicated to renewable power generation listed on BM&FBOVESPA S.A., informs to its shareholders and to the market in general that it is starting, today, operations of its first solar plant using the distributed generation model, with an installed capacity of 25,65kWp in Goiânia.
The plant will supply energy to the gold mining company Yamana Gold, which will generate its own electric power through the use of photovoltaic modules with mono-?crystalline silicon technology. Yamana Gold is located in the city of Pilar de Goiás, approximately 250km from Goiânia, the city where the solar energy operation is located.
The project is strategic to the Company, which has been investing in solar resources and has other ongoing projects, and also features the commercial viability of the distributed generation model. Renova has a team that is dedicated to new technology development and believes that solar energy will become increasingly feasible as it receives more incentives and its supply chain is developed, as it happened with wind power in 2009.
"One of the advantages of this power generation model is the cost reduction of the distribution and transmission, which is an expensive service in Brazil, besides meeting the growing demand of the population for a clean energy source", claims Mathias Beckers, Executive President of Renova Energia. The company believes that a Federal Government Auction that is specific for solar energy might contribute in a effective way to the industry growth in Brazil.
"The plant will supply all the Pilar project administrative area, through the interconnection to the industrial chain, a novelty that represents a milestone towards advancing in the field of sustainability, one of the pillars of Yamana in each of its units and projects" explains the Environment Director Eder Luiz Santo.
