The Phoenix-based company said it had profit of $1.39 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.41 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.28 per share.

The waste management company posted revenue of $3.83 billion in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.72 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.73 billion, or $5.47 per share. Revenue was reported as $14.96 billion.

Republic Services expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.94 to $6 per share, with revenue in the range of $16.1 billion to $16.2 billion.
