Spie announced on Tuesday that it had been chosen to modernize communications systems in the Flemish tunnels of Belgium by integrating the new DAB+ digital radio technology.

The engineering group says it will extend its collaboration with Jacops, a specialist in infrastructure techniques, to optimize communications in all Flanders' tunnels.

As well as optimizing the sound and range of the radio frequency, the deployment should bring a series of benefits, particularly in terms of communicating emergency messages in the event of accidents or roadworks.

Police, firefighters and emergency services can now communicate more effectively through one operator to ensure smooth operations in the field.

Increasingly popular in Europe, DAB+ technology is compatible with FM radio and can reach most vehicles on the road.
