Spire Healthcare : CQC maintains Spire Bushey Hospital rating as 'Good'

Spire Bushey Hospital has retained its 'Good' rating, following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

• Staff praised for passion and commitment
• Bushey's diagnostic centre also rated as 'Good'
• 90% of all Spire's 40 UK hospitals are rated as 'Good' or 'Outstanding'

Inspectors carried out an unannounced visit to see surgical services offered at the 80-bed hospital earlier in the autumn. In their report just published, they rated services 'Good' overall, and in each of the individual categories; safe, effective, and well-led.

The CQC praised staff for their passion and commitment to providing the best possible service for patients, singling out the quality of team working at the hospital. They also commended managers for the way in which they monitored the effectiveness of the services provided and the hospital leadership for the way in which they supported colleagues.

Inspectors also commented on the quality of the food and the way that the hospital catered for dietary needs of the local community, including kosher options for the large local Jewish population.

The CQC also noted a range of improvements made at the hospital since their last visit, earlier in the year.

In a separate report, the CQC also rated Spire Bushey's diagnostic centre as 'Good.' This was the first time that the centre had been inspected by the CQC.

Darren Rogers, Hospital Director at Spire Bushey, said: "We're absolutely delighted to retain our 'Good' overall rating and to have been assessed as being 'Good' across the board. It is a tribute to the hard work of all our colleagues and the fantastic way they have risen to all the challenges of the past year and a half.

"We now want to build on the CQC's findings and aim for an 'Outstanding' rating, next time we are inspected."

The hospital is one of Spire Healthcare's biggest, with two inpatient wards and six operating theatres. Its services include care in orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and ophthalmology. The nearby diagnostic centre provides services for outpatients. During the peaks of the pandemic, it made its services available to West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and provided treatment and diagnosis for thousands of NHS patients.
