Sumitomo Chemical has announced that the Company will change its organization as outlined below, effective April 1, 2024.
Reorganization related to business development for a circular system for plastics
The Business Development Office for a Circular System for Plastics will be reorganized into the Business Development Office for Circular Carbon Economy.
In recent years, social movements toward carbon neutrality have gained further momentum. In view of this, the new organization will take charge of products and technologies that contribute not only to plastic recycling, but more broadly to a circular carbon economy and environmental impact reduction, including the use of renewable resources, such as biomass raw materials. The new organization will work to accelerate business development to make these products and technologies widely available in society
Reorganization related to the Essential Chemicals & Plastics Sector
In an effort to optimize the structure of these operations, the Basic Materials Division and the Industrial Chemicals Division will be consolidated to form the Essential Materials Division. Sales functions will be integrated into the Industrial Chemicals Dept. and the Organic Chemicals Dept. In addition, the Business Planning & Administration Dept. will be established, and will be responsible for formulating and executing business strategies and procuring raw materials for the new division.
Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd is one of the Japanese largest chemical groups. The group is also manufacturing and marketing pharmaceutical products. Net sales break down by family of products as follows:
- petrochemical and plastic products (25.8%): ethylene, polyethylene, propylene, elastomers, agricultural films, etc.;
- pharmaceutical products (23.9%): ethic drugs, radiopharmaceutical products, etc.;
- telecommunication chemical products (18.9%): optic films, pigments, filters, etc.;
- agrochemical and fine chemistryproducts (18.5%): insecticides, herbicides, fertilizers, food additives, etc.;
- functional chemical products (10.7%): methanol, caustic soda, aluminum hydroxide, alumina, nitric acid, acrylonitrile, active pharmaceutical ingredients, polymeric additives, resorcine, colorants, etc.;
- other (2.2%).
Net sales break down geographically as follows: Japan (31.7%), China (19.2%), Asia (19.5%), North America (17.7%), Europe (4.2%) and other (7.7%).
