Synopsys has acquired Intrinsic ID, a provider of Physical Unclonable Function intellectual property that is used in the design of semiconductors.

The company said Wednesday that the acquisition expands its semiconductor IP portfolio and will enable system-on-chip designers to protect their work by generating unique identifiers on each chip.

Synopsys will absorb Intrinsic ID's team of research and development engineers.

The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, though Synopsys said the terms weren't material to its financials.
