TDK Corporation reported earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended September 30, 2023. For the second quarter, the company reported sales was JPY 556,312 million compared to JPY 611,489 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 39,463 million compared to JPY 55,538 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 104.04 compared to JPY 146.51 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 103.88 compared to JPY 146.23 a year ago.
For the six months, sales was JPY 1,059,711 million compared to JPY 1,121,993 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 54,188 million compared to JPY 86,951 million a year ago. Basic earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 142.86 compared to JPY 229.39 a year ago. Diluted earnings per share from continuing operations was JPY 142.64 compared to JPY 228.92 a year ago.
TDK Corporation specialises in the design, manufacture and sales of electronic products and recording equipment. Net sales break down by family product as follows:
- rechargeable batteries and energy converters (46.9%);
- electronic equipment and components (33.1%): ceramic capacitors, ferrites, magnets, inductors, high-frequency components, transformers, converters, thermistors, etc.;
- recording equipment (13.5%): recording appliances (notably magnetic heads for hard disks, heads for disk drives and thermal printer heads), recording equipment (audio and video cassettes, optical disks, computer data storage tapes, PC cards, etc.);
- other (3.5%): rechargeable batteries, memory cards, displays and mechatronic equipment.
Net sales break down geographically as follows: Japan (8%), China (56.8%), Asia (18.7%), Europe (10%) and Americas (6.5%).
