TNB'S STRATEGIC ALLIANCES WITH TRINA SOLAR TO PROPEL CLEAN ENERGY

SOLUTIONS FORWARD

  • The GSPARX - Trina Solar MoU is a collaborative pact aimed at securing business opportunities for rooftop, floating and grounded-mounted systems, and helping Malaysia move towards a net-zero future.
  • This MoU will play an important role in promoting solar energy solutions in Malaysia, in line with the objective of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) continues its momentum in driving sustainable energy transition with a strategic alliance between its wholly-owned subsidiary, GSPARX Sdn Bhd, and Trina Solar, the leading global PV and smart energy total solutions provider.

The formalisation of this partnership, marked by the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Managing Director of GSPARX, Elmie Fairul Mashuri, and General Manager - Southeast Asia, Trina Solar Energy Development, Elva Wang, in the presence of Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who then was the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment & Climate Change (NRECC), is a significant step towards leveraging solar power solutions, encompassing rooftop, floating, and ground-mounted systems.

"This alliance highlights our unwavering commitment to accelerating Malaysia's energy transition goals," emphasized TNB President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Seri Ir. Baharin Din. "Our partnership with Trina Solar is pivotal in harnessing Malaysia's solar potential and driving us closer to achieving Net Zero 2050 through sustainable practices."

Having been a trusted partner in TNB's rooftop business since 2019, Trina Solar's collaboration with GSPARX aims to bolster technical capabilities and overcome challenges in solar rooftop projects. This strategic alignment seeks to capture business opportunities across rooftop, floating, and ground- mounted solar systems, marking a significant stride in advancing Malaysia's solar photovoltaic (PV) market.

Beyond solar initiatives, GSPARX and Trina Solar will collaborate to explore innovative smart grid solutions, including energy storage, further solidifying their commitment to cutting-edge sustainable technology.

Baharin stated that, "Our collaboration with Trina Solar represents a commitment to sustainable transformation and environmental stewardship. These initiatives not only reinforce TNB's leadership in driving an eco-conscious energy transition but also opens doors to an array of opportunities while fostering technological innovation. This strategic alliance embodies TNB's relentless dedication to reshaping Malaysia's energy landscape for a better, brighter future."

TNB has been leading the industry for seven decades, acting as a key driving force of energy transition in Malaysia. The company is making substantial strides in its commitment to drive large renewable energy (RE) and clean technology initiatives, spearheading three pivotal flagship projects as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). TNB's Energy Transition Plan aligns with the NETR, emphasising three key pillars: accelerating generation decarbonisation, developing a flexible cross- border grid, and empowering cross-sector electrification and prosumers. Currently, TNB is on track to achieve its 8.3 gigawatt (GW) RE target by 2025.

The strategic collaboration between TNB's GSPARX and Trina Solar sets the stage for innovative clean energy solutions and underlines a joint commitment to driving impactful change in Malaysia's energy transition.
