The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) has been committed to promoting financial education and insists on incorporating ESG issues into its daily operations as a primary consideration.

Recently, Towngas has been awarded the Corporate Financial Education and ESG Leadership - Gold Award at the IFPHK Financial Education and ESG Leadership Awards 2023 for the sixth consecutive year, becoming the only public utility organisation to receive this honour in this edition.

Companies awarded the Corporate Financial Education and ESG Leadership - Gold Award are recognised for their contributions to social sustainability and commitment to engaging in ESG initiatives. The judging panel noted that Towngas consistently promotes corporate financial education and ESG principles through various channels, including organising investment and pre-retirement seminars and inviting experts from the Investor and Financial Education Council to provide comprehensive information to employees. In order to enhance public awareness of corporate financial concepts, Towngas publishes a quarterly newsletter featuring news and information related to finance and taxation, which is distributed free of charge at customer service centres and offices nationwide.

Additionally, Towngas is actively advancing and implementing ESG strategies. In order to foster in-depth exploration and promotion of ESG-related issues, the Company organised the industry's inaugural large-scale ESG Symposium last year. The Symposium featured over 20 distinguished experts and scholars who presented accessible insights on ESG topics. Within Towngas, internal workshops are also held to strengthen employees' understanding of ESG. For instance, the Plastic Recycling Workshop provides them with hands-on experience in the plastic recycling process, promoting waste reduction efforts.

For many years, Towngas has been dedicated to fulfilling its social responsibility. The Company established the Customer Focus Team, which regularly visits public housing estates and private residential complexes to provide residents with vital information on gas services, safety, billing, and appliance maintenance. Additionally, the Team actively listens to and collects customer feedback to enhance service quality. The Team, in its twenty years of operation, has organised over 574 activities, averaging twice a month. Furthermore, Towngas has introduced the Towngas Concession Schemes to assist individuals in need within the community, including senior citizens, people with disabilities, single-parent families, and low-income households, in alleviating their financial burdens.
