The New York Times has opened applications for its Editing Residency, a one-of-a-kind program aimed at cultivating the next generation of editors.

Residents work full time for two years across a range of desks in the newsroom. They are paid, receive benefits and attend dedicated training and speaker programs at The Times. We plan to welcome three new residents this year. Our goal is to recruit candidates of diverse backgrounds and give them the tools and experiences they need to help shape journalism. The most competitive candidates will have professional journalism experience and show a commitment to learning the craft of editing.

The deadline to submit an application is 5 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, May 30, after which the program directors and editors across the newsroom will collaborate to choose the new residents. The residency begins in November.
