Valhi, Inc. reported earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2023. For the third quarter, the company reported sales was USD 468.9 million compared to USD 556.3 million a year ago. Revenue was USD 476.4 million compared to USD 579.4 million a year ago. Net loss was USD 6 million compared to net income of USD 26.2 million a year ago. Basic loss per share from continuing operations was USD 0.21 compared to basic earnings per share from continuing operations of USD 0.92 a year ago. Diluted loss per share from continuing operations was USD 0.21 compared to diluted earnings per share from continuing operations of USD 0.92 a year ago.
For the nine months, sales was USD 1,468.7 million compared to USD 1,819.9 million a year ago. Revenue was USD 1,499.8 million compared to USD 1,858 million a year ago. Net loss was USD 16 million compared to net income of USD 99.6 million a year ago. Basic loss per share from continuing operations was USD 0.56 compared to basic earnings per share from continuing operations of USD 3.49 a year ago. Diluted loss per share from continuing operations was USD 0.56 compared to diluted earnings per share from continuing operations of USD 3.49 a year ago.
Valhi, Inc. is primarily a holding company, which operates through its subsidiaries, NL Industries, Inc., Kronos Worldwide, Inc., CompX International Inc., BasicManagement, Inc. and The LandWell Company. Its segments include Chemicals, Component Products, and Real Estate Management and Development. Chemicals segment produces and markets value-added titanium dioxide pigments. Component Products segment manufactures security products used in the postal, recreational transportation, office and institutional furniture, cabinetry, tool storage, healthcare and a variety of other industries. The segment also a manufacture wake enhancement system, stainless steel exhaust systems, gauges, throttle controls, trim tabs and related hardware and accessories for the recreational marine industry. Real Estate Management and Development segment owns real property in Henderson, Nevada. The segment develops certain land holdings for commercial, industrial and residential purposes in Henderson, Nevada.
