The new sports-streaming joint venture formed by Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discover has named Pete Distad, a former Apple executive, as its chief executive officer.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that the venture had started reviewing potential CEO candidates, and that Distad was floated as a top candidate.

"This is an incredible opportunity to build and grow a differentiated product that will serve passionate sports fans in the U.S. outside of the traditional pay TV bundle," Distad said. "I'm excited to be able to pull together the industry-leading sports content portfolios from these three companies to deliver a new best-in-class service."

Distad most recently worked at Apple, where he was responsible for the business, operations and distribution for video, sports and Apple TV+, the iPhone maker's streaming service.

Before that, he was senior vice president of marketing and distribution at Hulu and was part of Hulu's original launch team.
