(Alliance News) - Webuild Spa announced Monday that Fisia Italimpianti, a group company, has officially started construction in Saudi Arabia on the water treatment plant for the vast onshore Zuluf oil complex in the Persian Gulf.

The project was awarded to Fisia Italimpianti last year, with two contracts worth a total of EUR408 million for the construction and operation of the Zuluf water treatment plant, respectively.

Owned and operated by Saudi Aramco, the Zuluf field is the subject of an extensive growth program, launched in 2018, as part of the country's "Saudi Vision 2030" development plan.

The plant, the company explained in a note, "will allow for the treatment of up to 185,000 cubic meters/day of water, which will then be injected into offshore wells and contribute to the increase of crude oil production from the field."

Webuild's stock closed Friday in the red by 6.0 percent at EUR2.27 per share.
