Zehnder Group publishes Sustainability Report 2022 in reference to Standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)

• CO2e reduction of about 27% (Scope 1+2) in 2022 in comparison to the previous year
• Zehnder Group has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)

Graenichen (CH), 28 June 2023: The Zehnder Group (SIX: ZEHN), a leading international provider of complete solutions for a comfortable, energy-efficient and healthy indoor climate, published a comprehensive Sustainability Report 2022. The content of the sustainability report refers to the approved international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and forms the basis for the non-financial reporting of the Zehnder Group. The report is divided into the key topics of environment, employees and society. In the new sustainability report, Zehnder Group introduces its objectives, strategies and measures for the further development of the sustainability profile.

"We are happy that we have now moved another step further towards fact-based and transparent measurement of our impact on the environment and society", summarised Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Hans-Peter Zehnder and CEO Matthias Huenerwadel. "Responsibility for the sustainability objectives and their implementation falls under the Group Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. This underscores the importance that these issues hold for us."

Environment Focus Area: In the reporting year of 2022, Zehnder Group was able to reduce the emission of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases (CO2e Scope 1+2), which are harmful to the climate, by about 27% in comparison to the previous year. Among other achievements, reduction of the greenhouse gas footprint was accomplished by switching to electricity from regenerative energy sources as well as generating energy from our own photovoltaic systems.

Based on our analyses and estimates, our Scope 3 emissions for the reporting year of 2022 totalled roughly 4,917,348 tonnes of CO2e, with most of the emissions (87.52%) coming from use of the sold products. Considerable amounts of heating energy are saved during the entire product life cycle by using efficient heat recovery solutions for Zehnder's ventilation systems. These energy savings are not accounted for under Scope 3. To display the level of these potential savings in a transparent manner, the aim is to verify and publish this data in cooperation with a scientific institute in the future.

At the beginning of June 2023, the Zehnder Group officially committed to the evidence-based objectives of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). With this plan, the Zehnder Group is supporting the 1.5 degrees target of the Paris Climate Change Agreement and, in a next step, is planning to develop its commitment systematically further to climate protection.

Employees Focus Area: The Zehnder Group continues working on its profile as an attractive employer and is implementing measures to create a motivating work culture that offers equal opportunities and promotes health. Occupational safety remains a key focus topic. For example, in the reporting year of 2022, additional factories were certified according to ISO 45001 with the objective of permanently meeting the target of zero occupational accidents. In addition, the foundations were laid for the introduction of e-learning programs to promote life-long learning and targeted further training of employees.

Society Focus Area: The Code of Conduct was revised in the reporting year of 2022 and is used as a foundation and guideline for the daily conduct of all Zehnder employees. Furthermore, the company is creating clear guidelines for ethically correct behaviour by implementing additional compliance measures as well as the Supplier Code of Conduct.

Sustainability website: As a supplement to the Sustainability Report 2022, the Zehnder Group has updated its sustainability website. In addition to presenting the sustainability strategy of the Zehnder Group and the measures derived from them, examples of best practice from the focus areas of environment, employees and society are being introduced, and insight into the specific implementation of the measures is provided.
