A partnership has been signed between several groups to respond to the European Commission's call for tenders for the future European satellite constellation IRIS (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite).

IRIS will provide European governments, businesses and citizens with a new, secure and resilient communications infrastructure.

The consortium will be led by Airbus Defence and Space, Eutelsat, Hispasat, SES and Thales Alenia Space.

The consortium will also be supported by a Core Team comprising the following companies: Deutsche Telekom, OHB, Orange, Hisdesat, Telespazio and Thales.

These groups will develop a state-of-the-art satellite constellation based on a multi-orbit architecture interoperable with the terrestrial ecosystem.

' The partners are well placed to provide commercial services designed to reduce the digital divide in European territories, and increase Europe's influence and competitiveness as a space and digital power on the global market' says the group.
