Admiral : makeover for city's school crossing patrols

School crossing patrols in Cardiff are getting kitted out with new uniform, thanks to a new deal with local employer, Admiral.

Admiral, which has its headquarters in the city and employs over 6,400 people across south Wales, are sponsoring the winter and summer uniform for the 38 school crossing patrols and four mobile school crossing patrols around Cardiff.

Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, Cllr Caro Wild, said: 'We've very grateful to Admiral for supporting our school crossing patrols , ensuring they have the right gear as they go about their important role - making sure our children get to and from school safely.

'Our team across the city does a fantastic job, working really hard on busy roads and junctions. They are highly visible in their uniform and by law, have the power to stop traffic so we ask drivers to show respect for the patrols as they help both school children and adults to cross the roads safely.'

Ceri Assiratti, head of People Services for Admiral, said, 'The crossing patrols do an incredibly important job keeping children across the city of Cardiff safe when crossing the road. A great many of our employees have children, grandchildren and siblings attending schools across Cardiff and we're delighted to be able to fund the patrol's new uniforms.'

The new uniform was unveiled today at Fairwater Primary School when the Council's Road Safety team dropped in with Roadie, the school crossing robot, who helps teaching children -'Kerbcraft' - how to make the right decisions to keep safe when crossing roads.
