Many airberlin guests get into the holiday mood as soon as they board the plane and relax during the flight with their favourite films and TV series or their current best-loved music, and the snacks and drinks that go alongside.

Here are the summer 2014 trends at a glance:

On long-haul flights, airberlin guests can choose from more than 250 hours of onboard entertainment. The most popular in-flight film during the first six months of 2014 was Woody Allen's tragicomedy Blue Jasmine. Current film highlights include the blockbusters 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle and Gravity. airberlin has also extended its range of multilingual films and now offers 25 films that are available in at least German, English and French versions. Many of them are also available in Spanish.

Among the TV series available, American sitcom The Big Bang Theory is the favourite among airberlin guests. Two very different kinds of music are tied for first place as the most popular album: the album True by Swedish DJ Avicii is just as popular with our flight guests as The Best of Simon & Garfunkel.

The most popular game played onboard is the classic card game, Solitaire. Of all the items available from the in-flight shop, the perfume Sun from Jil Sander is the current favourite.

The top three alcohol-free drinks are mineral water, cola and orange juice. These are followed by the classic tomato juice, of which airberlin serves about 670,000 litres a year. In Economy Class, the number 1 alcoholic drink is beer, followed by champagne and white wine. Besides champagne, in Business Class airberlin guests most often choose the rosé wine from Sansibar.

On short- and medium-haul flights, guests can choose between a sweet or savoury free snack. More opt for the savoury than for the sweet alternative. The most popular gourmet menu option onboard continues to be Currywurst. The most popular item on the children's menu is Chicken Nuggets, which can be pre-ordered when booking a flight lasting an hour or more. Advance orders are possible up to 24 hours before departure for short- and medium-haul flights and up to 48 hours before departure for long-haul. Guests can order online at airberlin.com, through a travel agent or round the clock through airberlin's Service Center on 030 3434 3434 (local rates apply).
