The European Commission (EU) may block Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft (DB:LHA) takeover of Air Berlin PLC (XTRA:AB1) unit Niki, a person familiar with the matter said. People stated, “The EU Commission is currently leaning toward prohibiting the Niki deal for Lufthansa.” German magazine Spiegel earlier reported on its website that the Commission was considering blocking the deal, without identifying its sources.
The news report stated that Lufthansa declined to comment while the European Commission was not available for immediate comment.
