B3 was chosen to integrate the FTSE4Good Emerging Latin America Index, which evaluates the companies' performance with regard to their environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies and practices.

Joining the FTSE4Good Emerging Latin America Index shows that B3 is right on track in its efforts and actions to advance the Sustainability agenda. Furthermore, the Index will help enhance B3's visibility in the international investor community,' says Sonia Favaretto, Media Relations, Sustainability and Communications, and Social Investment managing director at B3.

The FTSE4Good Emerging Latin America Index was created by the international index provider FTSE Russell and is part of a widely recognized sustainability index - the FTSE4Good Index series -, which was launched in 2001. This series is designed to gauge the performance of companies that demonstrate high impact practices in the environmental, social and governance spheres. For this appointment, B3 was independently assessed according to the FTSE4Good criteria and met all the requirements to integrate the index portfolio, which includes emerging market companies in Latin America.

The criteria for companies to be included in the index are based on their public data and any information provided privately is not accepted. This gives greater credibility and transparency to the selection process. Furthermore, the eligibility criteria include more than 300 indicators across 14 themes, covering the three ESG pillars. The criteria process is advised by an independent committee composed of experts from the investment community, companies, NGOs, trade unions, and academia.

B3 was the world's first Stock Exchange to become a signatory to the UN Global Compact (2004), the first Stock Exchange in an emerging country to officially commit to the Principles for Responsible Investment - PRI (2010), and the first Stock Exchange in the Americas to become a signatory of the Women's Empowerment Principles - WEPs (2017). Among the stock exchanges, B3 was the founder of the UN-led initiative Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) in 2012. In 2014 B3 became a member of the SWG - Sustainability Working Group of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), and in 2016 Sonia Favaretto was elected Vice-Chair of the SWG initiative.
