As I gear up for my fourth trip to the Sibos conference, I'm most excited to dive into the back-to-back client meetings that will fill my days from arrival to departure.

Building strong partnerships with clients is, by far, my most important objective at the conference, which offers a unique opportunity to connect with many of our clients and partners.

These conversations grow in importance each year, with the increasing speed and complexity of doing business-new technologies, new regulations, global developments and so on.

My approach is to listen first, and then share. This year, I'm especially interested in hearing from our clients about three things.

First, where they are on digitization. Every financial firm is looking at serving their clients and customers more digitally, whether through artificial intelligence, robo advisors, or just better digital offerings. BNY Mellon is making substantial investments in its platform and digital solutions, so we want to make sure that what we're doing continues to align with-or stay a step ahead of-what our clients are trying to accomplish, both now and in the future.

Second, their goals and strategies for accessing global markets and capitalizing on fast-growing segments, such as ETFs, which eclipsed the $4 trillion in global assets mark earlier this year, and alternative investments. Where do they see their businesses expanding, and where do they see trouble spots?

And third, their thoughts on how we can improve their client experience, and help overcome their challenges. It's clear to me that the need for a superior client experience is becoming even more critical, requiring a never-ending assessment of every process that affects how quickly and effectively we provide service.

For our part, we'll be talking about how we're evolving, including our client-experience progress; our global support model; cybersecurity; and our solutions, along with a number of other topics.

Each edition of Sibos provides us with more intelligence and more ideas that drive innovation. I'm really looking forward to this year's conference, and I'll share highlights of what I learn in Toronto.
