NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / May 17, 2017 / Continued strength from the technology sector helped push the NASDAQ to a new record high. The NASDAQ has outperformed both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 Index in 2017. The NASDAQ Composite Index hit a high of 6,170.16 in intraday trading Friday, before settling to close at 6,169.87, up 14.62 percent year-to-date. The Dow Jones declined 0.01 percent to close at 20,979.75, up 6.16 percent year-to-date, while the S&P 500 Index declined 0.07 percent to close at 2,400.67, up 7.23 percent year-to-date.

BlackBerry's shares spiked 5.71 percent to close at $10.18 a share on Tuesday. The stock traded between $9.65 and $10.41 on volume of 19.82 million shares traded. Reuters has reported that the company is currently working on an anti-hack tool for vehicles. According to a note to clients from Macquarie analyst Gus Papageorgiou, the device is currently being tested by luxury automakers Aston Martin and Range Rover. The service could generate approximately $10 a month per vehicle when launched, according to Papageorgiou. Shares of BlackBerry have gained approximately 47.75 percent year-to-date.

Pfizer's shares declined 1.57 percent to close at $32.60 a share on Tuesday. The stock traded between $32.39 and $32.80 on volume of 40.26 million shares traded. Pfizer hit a three-month low after Citi analyst Andrew Baum downgraded the company's rating to "sell" from "neutral" and lowered earnings estimates by between 5 and 10 percent for 2018 ? 2022. "Pfizer needs a deal to deliver consensus earnings per share," Mr. Baum wrote. Pfizer's revenues totaled $12.8 billion in the first quarter of 2017, a decrease of 2 percent year-over-year. Shares of Pfizer have gained approximately 0.37 percent year-to-date.
