Dearborn, Mich., Sep 28, 2016 - The Ford GT became the first automobile ever to win a Gold Clio in the prestigious international Clio Awards competition. The GT won the Gold Clio for product design in the newly added Vehicle category, making the Ford supercar the debut winner of the honor.

'This is an exciting win, an extraordinary achievement,' said Craig Metros, Ford's exterior design director for North America. 'The Ford GT is real piece of modern art, design and performance. The 2016 LeMans winner is not only a beautifully sculptured machine, but a showcase of innovation that celebrates performance, efficiency, lightweight and aerodynamics.''

Metros will join Ford interior design manager William Mangan at the Clio Awards ceremony in New York today to accept the awards on behalf of the Ford GT team.

The Clio Awards is an esteemed competition that recognizes creative excellence. Now in its 57th year, the competition recognizes the work, agencies and talent that push boundaries and establish new precedent.

The awards are based on votes from top creative professionals and marketers in advertising, marketing and celebrated design brand sectors around the world. The Clio judging process is known for its diplomatic approach to recognizing creative excellence on a global scale. Fewer than 20 percent of submissions within a media type survive the first two rounds, from which juries re-evaluate the work to determine Gold, Silver and Bronze statues.
