Kyocera Corporation (President: Hideo Tanimoto) today announced the opening of the 2017 Autumn Special Exhibition:'Dawn of Restoration - Exhibition Commemorating the 150 Anniversary of the Battle of Toba-Fushimi' to be held at The Kyocera Museum of Art - located on the first floor of the Kyocera Head Office from October 28 through December 3. Kyocera's Head Office is located in Tobadono, Fushimi ward, Kyoto, the same area where the battle began on January 3, 1868.
The exhibition will feature approximately 60 precious pieces including'Great Victory of the Combined Imperial Forces of Mōri and Shimayama,' printed on colored woodblock called Nishiki-e that describes the Battle at the time, the Kawaraban-newspapers published in the Edo period and the drawing of the Satsuma Residence in Fushimi where Ryoma Sakamoto, a key historical figure in the Meiji Restoration, was treated after being injured in the Teradaya Incident.
By viewing the historical items on display, visitors will be able to feel the strong beliefs and passion of the people who contributed greatly to the establishment of modern Japan.

Exhibit HighlightThe exhibition evokes the Battle of Toba-Fushimi and the upheaval of the Meiji Restoration through the artworks and materials on display. A woodblock print work named 'Great Victory of the Combined Imperial Forces of Mōri and Shimayama' illustrates how Osaka Castle was in flames while the new government army had an advantage in the battle. In addition, 'A Record of the Years of Tokugawa Rule: Lord Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the Fifteenth Shogun' printed on woodblock shows Yoshinobu's escape from Osaka to Edo by sea. These evoke the dramatic site of the battle which occurred 150 years ago.
Furthermore, it was announced in June of this year that a drawing of the Satsuma Clan's residence in Fushimi had been discovered. The residence is said to have been the place where Ryoma Sakamoto, a key figure in Japan's modernization, was treated after being injured in the Teradaya Incident. This precious drawing will be on display as a special favor from the owner.
