KYOCERA CORPORATION : KYOCERA Group Companies around the World Undertake Community-Based and International Efforts to Support Children

Since its foundation in 1959, Kyocera Corporation (President: Goro Yamaguchi) has been engaged in business activities with the goal of contributing to the advancement of society and humankind by developing new technologies and offering high-quality products. The company also seeks diverse opportunities to give back to society out of gratitude for the support it receives. As the end of 2013 approaches, Kyocera Group employees in different countries around the world are undertaking a range of efforts to support children, including donations to schools, creating picture books for children in developing countries, and offering holiday gifts for families in need.

Last month in the Czech Republic, Kyocera Solar Europe s.r.o. made donations to four elementary schools in the town of Kadan to support local education. Upon specific requests from the schools, the company donated much-needed equipment such as computers, flash memory disks, a projector, ceramic furnace and interactive whiteboard. In addition, three solar modules were donated to each school, with one of them to be utilized in science classes to teach students about the mechanisms behind solar energy.

On December 3, employees of Kyocera Communication Systems Co., Ltd. in Japan voluntarily made picture books for children in developing countries. The event is part of an international cooperative in which the company has been participating since 2009, where the handmade books are delivered to children in countries including Cambodia, Laos, Afghanistan, and at refugee camps in Myanmar.

Furthermore, Kyocera employees in the United States are working locally to make the holiday a special one for people in their community. Recently, Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation took part in the Adopt-a-Family Program, in which employees at the Vancouver, WA plant purchased items requested by local families in need which were given as holiday gifts. Also, Kyocera Document Solutions America in New Jersey is participating in the annual Toys for Tots Donation run by the U.S. Marine Corps, which collects toys and delivers them to underprivileged children.

These efforts follow other initiatives undertaken by the Kyocera Group to support and offer opportunities for children who represent the future of society. These include annual cultural exchange tours for Chinese children to visit Japan with the purpose of facilitating future bonds of friendships between the two countries; and ongoing donations of solar power generating systems to schools in Tanzania and Uganda to help improve educational infrastructure. Kyocera will continually work toward the betterment of society not only through business, but also through community-based and international contributions.
