Wind Power Purchasing Agreement Signed with Kuroshio Furyoku Hatsuden K.K.

Tokyo Gas, Co., Ltd. (President: Michiaki Hirose; hereinafter "Tokyo Gas") is pleased to announce the signing today of an agreement with Kuroshio Furyoku Hatsuden K.K. (President: Satoshi Maekawa; hereinafter "Kuroshio Furyoku") for the purchase of electric power that Kuroshio Furyoku generates (hereinafter "the Agreement").
Expanding its use of renewable energy is one of the goals articulated by the Tokyo Gas's "Challenge 2020 Vision" plan, and the company has performed extensive studies on the potential to purchase the electricity generated by renewable energy sources, focusing primarily on wind power.
Under the Agreement, Tokyo Gas will purchase a total of approximately 12,000 kW of wind power generated at two wind power plants operated by Kuroshio Furyoku in the Kanto region, the Choshi Takada-cho Wind Power Plant (began operations in 2006;
1,990 kW x 1 unit) and the Shiishiba Wind Power Plant (began operations in 2009;
1,990 kW x 5 units).
Tokyo Gas registered as a Power Producer and Supplier in order to make use of the
Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Scheme to purchase the wind power. *
Tokyo Gas is aiming at obtaining renewable energy sources in the future by proactively purchasing wind power and other forms of renewable electric power as a way to assist its customers' needs in reducing their CO2 emissions and to contribute to the realization of the low-carbon society.
* Under the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) Scheme, a surcharge is paid to the electricity utility for the purchase of renewable electric power. Registration as a Power Producer and Supplier is required to make use of FIT arrangements.
