ZEE Network Europe to join the world in celebrating the first ever International Yoga Day! ZEE has always been amongst the forerunners when it comes to celebrating and popularizing Indian practices and traditions worldwide. From celebrating fun cultural festivals such as Holi and Diwali to promoting deep rooted Indian customs such as Yoga and Meditation, ZEE has always infused these elements into its initiatives and programming. This year will see the first ever International Yoga Day, celebrated the world over on the summer solstice, Sunday 21 June. And ZEE too will be actively supporting and celebrating this day at the Alexandra Palace.

Last year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressed the United Nations General Assembly to get the day recognised, saying "Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day." Recognising the impact Yoga can have on the individual, and the world at large, he said that by changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, Yoga can help us deal with climate change. "Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature." He added saying "Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature."

The resolution was co-sponsored by 175 members of the United Nations - a record number, proving the popularity of the ancient Indian discipline across the entire world. After many attempts to have a day recognised globally, International Yoga Day will be celebrated across the global Yoga community on the longest day of the year.

Alexandra Palace will be hosting the UK's biggest event, with a free celebration in their beautiful grounds - a full day of completely free Yoga and meditation with some of the country's leading teachers. There will be sun salutations from sunrise to sunset. There is no better setting to discover a sense of oneness than at Alexandra Palace, the new home of the OM Yoga Show in London. Set in 196 acres of parkland, the iconic North London venue is the ideal spot to spend hour upon hour saluting the sun on the longest day of the year. Plenty of Yoga activities and classes are arranged for the public throughout the day at Alexandra Palace such as Kundalini Yoga, Shamanic Yoga, Preksha Meditation, Power Vinyasa, Scaravelli Yoga, Patanjali Yoga, Boxing Yoga, Chi Kri Hip Hop Yoga to name a few.

Along with the celebrations taking place at Alexandra Palace on 21 June, ZEE has lined up a bunch of activities surrounding the event to promote the age old practice of Yoga. Zee Companion, the Live TV show on Zee TV will dedicate an entire week to promote Yoga and will bring various Yoga experts on the show to demonstrate the practice, interact with viewers and answer their queries about Yoga.

Join ZEE at Alexandra Palace to enjoy a full day free celebration of yoga and meditation. Register your details on www.zeetv.co.uk or www.iyd.yoga and come along for a great day out.
