BEIJING (Reuters) - Bank of Communications (BoCom) President Liu Jun resigned with immediate effect on Tuesday as he prepares to move to the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

Liu, 52, also resigned as vice chairman of board, the bank said in a filing on the Shanghai stock exchange.

In April, Liu was appointed as deputy party secretary of ICBC, the world's largest bank by assets. Being appointed as deputy party secretary is usually a precursor to becoming the president of a state-owned bank in China.

Former ICBC President Liao Lin was named chairman in February with the role of president remaining vacant since then.

Liu joined China Everbright Bank in 1993 as a forex trader. He was named executive vice president of the lender in 2010.

In 2016, he moved to sovereign wealth fund China Investment Corp as vice president. Liu joined BoCom in July 2022 and had served as the bank's president since then.
