  2. Reasons for Differences

Net sales in the first half ended September 30, 2016, were lower than the previous forecast.

However, operating income, ordinary income and net income attributable to owners of the parent were all higher than the previous forecast. This was due mainly to the timing for recording certain selling, general and administrative expenses having shifted into the second half.

The percentage change of actual net income attributable to owners of the parent compared to the forecast was larger than those of operating income and ordinary income. This was due to the gap between actual income taxes and estimation which we made for the previous forecast.

Benesse Holdings left its earnings outlook for the fiscal year unchanged from the previous forecast for the reason that the difference between the forecast and actual results in the first half was mainly attributable to a shift in the timing for recording expenses.
