CGI said Tuesday that it has been awarded a $72 million contract with an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to improve the online Medicare platform.

The Canadian IT consulting and software developer said the contract is a firm-fixed price contract by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to help improve access to Medicare by modernizing the agency's health plan management system using cloud technologies, data analytics and integrating intelligent automation, among others.

The contract has been awarded to CGI Federal, its U.S. operating subsidiary.
