MUNICH (dpa-AFX) - According to a survey by electricity supplier Eon, Bavaria is the German state with the most public charging points and the highest charging capacity for electric cars. With more than 23,000 charging points, the offer for electric cars in Bavaria is greater than in North Rhine-Westphalia with a good 21,000 and Baden-Württemberg with over 20,000 charging points, EON announced on Tuesday.

However, there are major differences between the stations. At fast-charging stations with 350 kilowatts (kW) of charging power, many more charging processes are possible every day than at charging stations with only 11 or 22 kW.

According to the new "EON Energy Atlas", around 114,000 public charging points with more than 3.6 gigawatts of charging power are available nationwide for around 1.4 million fully electric cars. "The state of Bavaria is ahead in terms of charging infrastructure for e-cars with 690 megawatts of installed charging capacity - an increase of almost 30 percent compared to the previous year - and more than 23,000 charging points," said EON Managing Director Jens Michael Peters.

According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 8.4 million cars are registered in Bavaria, of which a good three percent or almost 269,000 are battery-powered vehicles (BEV) and 164,000 are plug-in hybrids (PHEV). In purely mathematical terms, this means that almost 2.6 kW of publicly installed charging capacity is available per BEV in Bavaria - twice as much as the EU guideline value of 1.3 kW. According to EON, 87 of the 96 districts and independent cities in Bavaria have installed more than 1.3 kW of charging capacity per registered BEV.

Nationwide, the number of charging points per BEV is highest in Saxony, Thuringia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt. According to EON, the charging capacity per BEV there is almost twice as high as in Bavaria - however, the share of BEVs in the car population is also only just under half as high as in Bavaria and the lowest in Germany./rol/DP/zb
