STOCKHOLM--Swedish private-equity firm EQT has agreed to buy a majority stake in Universidad Europea, a private university network in Spain and Portugal.

The deal sees EQT buy its stake from British buyout firm Permira, which will retain a significant minority share in the company.

Universidad Europea operates 12 campuses, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as advanced career programs. It has 3,400 employees and comprises a network of 54,000 students and 130,000 alumni, offering over 500 degrees and 110 value-add programs.

EQT said it will invest in existing campuses and enhance the online proposition while helping to establish campuses in new regions.

The deal is subject to approvals and is expected to close in the third or fourth quarter of 2024.

With this transaction, EQT Infrastructure VI is expected to be 30%-35% invested.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.
