BERLIN/FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - 12.2 million passengers passed through German airports in February. This was around 47,000 fewer than in January, as the airport association ADV reported on Tuesday. The decline was mainly due to the many flight cancellations caused by strikes.

However, compared to the same month last year, which was one day shorter, the number of passengers increased - by 14.6 percent. Compared to February 2019 before the coronavirus crisis, however, 22.2 percent of travelers were missing. There are still significantly fewer people traveling than before the pandemic, especially in domestic German air traffic. The number of flights on offer has also been significantly reduced.

For the first two months of this year, ADV reports an increase in passenger numbers of 13.2% to 24.5 million people compared to the same period last year. There was still a 22.4 percent shortfall compared to the pre-crisis level./ceb/DP/ngu
